Fundraiser in Support of Dapamoga’s Friend Aliaksei Yevtushyk

Aliaksei Yevtushyk is a Belarusian from Minsk who faced political repression, a former IT professional, and one of those people for whom solidarity after 2020 became much more than just a word.

In August 2020, Aliaksei spent time in the notorious Akrestsina detention centre. With the support of Dapamoga, he was able to leave Belarus and move to Lithuania. Once he was safe himself, he almost immediately began helping others — friends and acquaintances who could no longer safely remain in Belarus because of their political views.

During his first years in Lithuania, Aliaksei worked in IT and earned a good income. He used a significant part of his resources to support those who had only just managed to escape Belarus.

His home on Jogailos Street in Vilnius effectively became a small “hub” for newly arrived Belarusians — a place where people could stay, figure out what to do next, and simply catch their breath.

Aliaksei helped people find and pay for accommodation, settle into a new city, and lent them money — often knowing that he might never get it back.

Back then, he was able to help — and he did.

But over the past few years, Aliaksei’s own life has changed dramatically.

His serious heart problems began while he was still in Belarus and eventually required major surgery. A few years ago, Aliaksei suffered a stroke. For some time, he was unable to work, experienced speech difficulties, and had to recover from the effects of the stroke. He was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

At first, Aliaksei lived on his own savings. Later, friends helped him. Today, he tries to take on whatever work he can to cover at least his most essential expenses, including vital heart medication.

During this period, however, he accumulated a debt of around €2,000 to Lithuania’s Sodra, and the resulting situation with his health insurance has become yet another serious challenge.

Today, the person who once helped so many others is the one who needs help.

We are reaching out to all Belarusians who care — both those who know Aliaksei personally and those who are reading his name for the first time today.

And especially to those whom he once helped himself.

Perhaps he welcomed you when you arrived.

Perhaps he gave you a roof over your head.

Perhaps he lent you money.

Perhaps he was simply there at a moment when your entire former life had suddenly been left on the other side of the border.

Now it is time to support Aliaksei.

Our goal is to help him pay off his debt to Sodra, regain access to health insurance, take proper care of his health, and gradually return to a more stable life.
