Support the Theatrical and Musical Performance “Будзем песьняй мінуўшчыну біць”

On 29 October 2026, a theatrical and musical performance entitled “Будзем песьняй мінуўшчыну біць” (“Let Our Song Keep the Past Alive”) will take place in Vilnius, commemorating the Night of the (Un)Executed Poets.

29 October 1937 was one of the most tragic dates in the history of Belarusian culture. In Minsk, more than one hundred members of the Belarusian intelligentsia — poets, writers, scholars and cultural figures — were executed.

Almost 90 years later, we continue to honour the memory of those whose lives were cut short, but whose words and works outlived their authors.

On this evening, Belarusian actors, musicians and young performers from the VARTA theatre school will bring together theatre, poetry and live music in a single artistic expression exploring memory, human destiny and the power of art.

Three parts — three artistic spaces — one story:

▪️ THE VERDICT — a theatrical reconstruction of an NKVD meeting at which death sentences were handed down to members of the Belarusian intelligentsia.

▪️ POETRY — a stage interpretation of Anatol Volny’s poem “Kastus Kalinouski”.

▪️ SONG — live performances of songs based on poems by executed Belarusian poets, alongside contemporary Belarusian songs performed by the band BAJSTRUK.

Why are we launching this fundraiser?

We want everyone to be able to attend this event, regardless of their financial circumstances. That is why admission will be free.

However, even cultural events that are free for the audience involve organisational expenses.

We are therefore launching a €300 fundraiser to help cover the costs of organising and staging the performance.

By supporting this fundraiser, you are doing more than helping organise a theatrical evening. You are helping preserve Belarusian cultural memory and pass it on to future generations.

We cannot change the past. But we can make sure that the voices of those who were meant to be silenced continue to be heard.

We are grateful for donations of any amount. Every €5, €10 or €20 brings us closer to our goal!
